There’s a thing about Debian… it’s super stable, but the devs always want newer software, so if they need Ruby you have a choice of compiling it from source as I previously described here or better using the Debian Backports.

Riak is something like memcached, a data store, key value db. I’m not a programmer so don’t realy know the differance between these two and never used it for anything but I was asked to installl it on ec2 and as getting it running on local interface was simple the public interface caused some troubles.
